Inside the nursery
A walk through Motke's nursery and lab in Sangli: propagation sheds, hardening areas, the ornamental section and the tissue-culture lab.

Propagation sheds
Callused canes are planted in beds under shade and watched while roots and shoots develop.

Ornamental plugs in trays
Rooted ornamental plugs in cavity trays.

Hardening
Plants move into open shade so they are used to field conditions before dispatch.

Ornamental section
Foliage plants raised in rows under polyhouse cover for trade buyers.

Tissue-culture lab
Technicians subculture plantlets at laminar-flow benches; the vessels then move to the growth room and on to weaning.

The team
Plants are raised by people. The nursery team handles callusing, planting, care, sorting and dispatch every day.
